The beautiful parish church of St Oswald - from which the village derives its name - was dedicated to the Anglo Saxon king of Northumbria, a Christian convert who died in 642 while fighting pagan King Penda of Mercia. Thirklewood House Bed and Breakfast at Oswaldkirk is a short drive to Castle Howard. This fine building and gardens offer the visitor a superb day out. Malton is around 14 miles away with lots of visitor attractions. Thirsk is about the same distance and this fine old market town is worth a visit. The area is full of Ancient Castles and Abbeys. Leave your vehicle in our safe parking within the grounds and take the Moors Bus. When the Winter months have gone and Spring and Summer is upon us you can catch the Moors Bus right out side our gardens. Your destination can be anywhere your fancy takes you with low cost travel to many tourist destinations. If you feel that a day in the garden is all you require on those sunny days then relax in our gardens and enjoy the many plants and flowers we always have on show. Or if you are feeling energetic then you can always help in the garden. We are Ideally placed for exploring the surrounding country side by foot there is a plethora of footpaths to use adjacent to our gardens. Most places within this area of natural outstanding beauty are within walking and short driving distances or if cycling you will find the roads relatively quiet by comparison. There are many abbeys and castles to visit. We are ideally place for travel to Thirsk, Malton, Pickering, Helmsley and York is just a 25 minute drive. Click

General Information: Welcome to Thirklewood House ... a country house Bed and Breakfast sited in the North York Moors National Park in the village of Oswaldkirk, North Yorkshire, England. The area is known as Ryedale. Whatever your reasons for visiting our area you will receive the very best of hospitality from your hosts Beryl and Geoff Walker. The four bedrooms are not en-suite but the bathroom is a metre away. Four bedrooms share two bathrooms only and in the not so busy times we try to give rooms to avoid sharing.
We serve a well cooked breakfast in your own dining room comprising of sausage, bacon, egg, black pudding, mushrooms, tomatoes and hash brown. There are starters of fruit juices, fruit, cereals and yogurts. Fresh toast and freshly ground coffee, or tea if you prefer. We also give you the choice of a lighter breakfast of any of the above.
