The pleasant sub-tropical climate and the serenity of distant places attract most travellers to the Oaxaca Valley. It has:
Zapotecs, Mixtecs, and the fourteen other ethnic groups are still present in its culture and customs; even the Spaniards. Oaxaca is the most diverse state in Mexico. Just two blocks from the Hotel Aitana is the 17th century Basilica de la Soledad. The Church complex consists of a gorgeous plaza and esplanade bordered by two Hispanic churches, The City Hall, and The School of Fine Arts. It is the setting for frequent cultural presentations, as well as for enjoying Oaxaca's delicious "nieves" or sherbet prepared according to cherished recipes of Oaxacan grandmothers. These and many other Oaxacan attractions, such as the magnificent mountain top pyramids of Monte Albán and the Sierra Madre's foothills may be glimpsed from the Hotel's rooftop terrace. Impressive green stone colonial buildings are also spectacular at sunset. "Our room was clean and comfortable and well decorated with a widow opening onto a small courtyard (we had no problems with hot water during our stay) ... Meals and breakfasts are served in the courtyard which was covered when we were there (in the rainy season). The food tastes good and was reasonably priced, the waitresses were excellent." "Breakfast was included, it was delicious and served in the interior patio that was a very relaxing place. They also had a kitchen open into the evening so you could have lunch or dinner, or a snack in your room, whenever you wanted. We liked to take our cervezas up to the roof terrace." "We stayed here for a romantic getaway and it was fab. The room stayed v. cool at night despite the lack of air conditioning and was perfectly quiet. The Mexican breakfast with fresh fruit each morning in the courtyard was dreamy. The staff arranged day trips for us and was very friendly ... The traditional colonial-style architecture made it feel like a real getaway. We'll be back!" "The staff spoke English and were extremely helpful with information about the area and they were connected with a great tour company for trips to Monte Alban, Mitla, villages in the area, etc." |
"Wonderful hotel, great location. The service is fantastic- the staff is friendly and very helpful." |

Our room had three windows that you could open up to have fresh air ... We were on the 2nd floor so had direct access from our room to the lovely rooftop terrace overlooking the city. We loved watching the sunset from there. Breakfast was really good and you could choose from three options on the menu. We found the staff very helpful with anything we asked for." "Stayed at Aitana for 7 nights and was very please with the cleanliness of the hotel, attentiveness of the staff, quality food and quiet rooms. A few blocks off the most convenient streets but that was reflected in the low price. Would stay there again." "3 of us stayed at the Aitana during day of the dead. We were there for 10 days. Staff was personable and extremely helpful. Food was great and we loved being a few blocks away from down town. We enjoyed the walk to and from the Zocolo after our evening meal. We are all planning on returning to Oaxaca and staying at the Aitana. The outdoor patio on the roof was a great place to unwind at the end of the day." "Just returned from Oaxaca, where we stayed at the Aitana for four nights during the Christmas-New Years peak week. Everything else in our price range was booked, so I was nervous about the Aitana, but it worked out fine. Rooms comfortable, beds firm, lighting excellent for reading, staff friendly and helpful, breakfast food and service just fine." |
