Activities/Attractions: Rome means history ... there's layers of it - Etruscan tombs, Republican meeting rooms, Imperial temples, early Christian churches, medieval bell towers, Renaissance palaces and baroque basilicas. In this city a phenomenal concentration of history, legend and monuments coexists with an equally phenomenal concentration of people busily going about their everyday life. It's hard to say what you'll find most breathtaking about the eternal city - the opulence of the Vatican, the timelessness of the Forum.

Rome is halfway down Italy's western coast, about 20km (12mi) inland. It's a vast city, but the historic centre is quite small. Most of the major sights are within a reasonable distance of the central railway station, Stazione Termini. Here's a sample of what to see:

• The Palatine Hill and the Forum are the centre of ancient Rome
  
• Via del Corso runs north from the Forum to Piazza del Popolo
  
• The Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain just to its east
  
• The Vatican is northwest of the Forum, across the River Tiber
  
• Rome's marvellous collection of piazzas makes for great resting places on your walks around the city
  
• Vast and beautiful, Piazza Navona was laid out on the ruins of Domitian's stadium. It's lined with baroque palaces and holds three fountains, including Bernini's Fountain of the Rivers
  
• The Piazza di Spagna, at the foot of the Spanish Steps
  
• The Keats-Shelley Memorial House is nearby, and the piazza is graced by Bernini's boat-shaped Barcaccia fountain
  
• Elegant Via Condotti (shoppers' heaven) runs into the piazza, and Rome's oldest café, Caffè Greco, can be found at No 86
  
• One of the most popular places to hang out isn't a piazza but a fountain - the Trevi Fountain. It attracts more tourist coins than any other fountain in Rome, due to the clever rumour that a thrown coin will ensure your return to the Eternal City
  
• Piazza del Quirinale offers stunning views of Rome and St Peter's
  
• the Piazza Venezia is overshadowed by 'the Typewriter', otherwise known as the Victor Emmanuel Monument
  
• Piazza Barberini features the fantastic Triton Fountain
  
• Via Veneto was the place to be in the 1950s and '60s, when the truly astonishing Swedish import Anita Ekberg personified La Dolce Vita
  
• The Campo de' Fiori is a lively piazza which is home to a daily (except Sunday) flower and vegetable market
  
• The magnificent Renaissance Farnese Palace is just off the piazza

"If you are looking for a comfortable room on a budget, look no further. Giovy's place is situated in the heart of Roma, just a 3 minute walk to/from Stazione Termini -- Rome's main Metro and Trenitalia hub. The B&B is nestled off of a courtyard, away from the street, providing a quiet respite from the bustling neighborhood noise. The rooms are spacious by Italian standards and are very clean and well appointed. Breakfast is ample and Giovy's husband Claudio is deserving of his reputation for making a great espresso or hot chocolate. Despite the above-average amenities, the true reason to stay here is the hostess. Giovy is energetic and charismatic; always willing to help in any way she can. She speaks a good bit of English ... I would not hesitate to visit B&B Giovy any time I visit Rome. Sure, there are plenty of rooms for rent in Roma--some far more posh--but Giovanna makes her place seem like home."

"Everything about this B&B is perfect. Giovanna is the perfect hostess. Even though she lives in a nearby separate apartment she is never far away and is always on hand to give you advice, food and drink or even a hug! She will bend over backwards for you in order to ensure you are happy. Giovanna is a wonderfully warm and friendly person and her little hotel has an equally warm and friendly feel about it. The rooms are quiet, spacious, beautifully decorated, very modern and spotlessly clean ... My husband and I would definitely stay here if we return to Rome. We can't recommend it highly enough."

"I stayed at this B&B for 3 nights along with my wife and child and I must say that this was the best part of my trip in Rome. This was my first ever experience staying in B&B and i was not disappointed. Giovanna is an excellent hostess and made us feel at home immediately upon our arrival. Giovanna explained the map of Rome to us and how to go about our sightseeing. She even suggested to keep her B&B card in my kid's pocket just in case. We had a spacious and comfy room with an extra bed for my kid already placed there. The room and bathroom though a bit on smaller side, was spotlessly clean. The breakfast was wholesome and there was a lot of variety to choose from. When I asked her about some bus routes, she searched for it in her books, called up someone and let me know many options that were very helpful. The location of this B&B is very convenient as its very near to Termini station where almost all the buses go and we can also use the metro. It was specially useful when we had an early morning train to catch. I would definitely recommend it to others and stay here myself whenever I return to Rome."

"We had a brilliant time in the city and the b&b Giovy is an excellent place to stay. It's location is ideal as it is close to the centre so you can walk to all the sites, plus it is a safe neighbourhood to return to at night. It is also 2 streets from the main rail station so no dragging suitcases for half a mile! Giovanna is the perfect host, so helpful and friendly. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the breakfast plentiful. My husband says Claudio's cappuccino's were the best in Rome [unlike Cafe Greco's!] All this at such a good rate. "This was our first visit to Italy and we stayed at the B&B Giovy for 3 nights. The B&B is run by lovely Giovanna, who made us feel very welcome. We had a beautiful room which was spotlessly clean and quiet. A large breakfast was served each morning consisting of sweet pastries, yogurt, fruit, toast, fruit juice, tea and coffee. We felt very safe and Giovanna was always on hand if we needed anything. B&B Giovy is just a few minutes walk from Termini Station and within walking distance of most of Rome’s historical sites.
