Activities/Attractions: The Overberg region starts about 100 kilometres east of Cape Town on the other side of the Hottentots Holland and Wemmershoek Mountains. The region is interesting because of a number of picturesque seaside resorts and fishing villages like Kogel Bay, Rooi Els, Betty's Bay, Kleinmond, Hermanus, Gansbaai, Struisbaai, Cape Agulhas and Arniston/Waenhuiskrans. The most prominent seaside resort at the Overberg coast is Hermanus, one of the oldest in South Africa.

Hermanus is built along the shores of Walker Bay near the Southern most tip of Africa. Magnificent mountains watch over the town which is home of the Southern Right Whale. Nature lovers from all over the world visit Hermanus to view these magnificent creatures from the best land based whale watching destination in the world. Hermanus also offers:

General Information: Welcome to Hortensia Lodge in Hermanus, Western Cape, South Africa ... affordable accommodation well positioned within walking distance of the centre of the village, and only 400 meters to the cliff-top path that runs along the ocean front. The picturesque cliff path, for which Hermanus is well known, stretches for 12km along the Walker Bay coastline and can be reached 400 meters from "Hortensia Lodge". From this footpath whales (June-November), seals, dolphins, sea-birds, rockrabbits, fynbos (our indigenous flora) - and many nectar loving birds can be seen. There are many benches inviting the walker to rest a while and enjoy the splendid views of mountains and ocean.
