It was known in ancient times as "in prunetis" or "in pineta" (within the pine woods) and indeed remnants of beautiful pine forests may still be seen interspersed among the olive groves on some of the surrounding hills. Impruneta is famous worldwide for the handcrafted pottery and the local production of wine and olive oil. Likewise, there are many other interesting sights in Impruneta and surrounding villages. Throughout the year there are festivals and cultural activities that make the short journey from Florence worthwhile. The Church of Santa Maria at Impruneta has become well-known for
the sacred and miraculous effigy of the Madonna housed there.
Pilgrims came in large numbers and a famous fair took place and
still takes place on the feast of Saint Luke, 18
October. Originally a feast associated with the movement and sale
of livestock, it is now celebrated with stalls, dinners and horse
races. Our accommodation is not only nice and typical, but also healthy: Impruneta is a breath of fresh air compared to the often hectic pace of Florence. Close by our location you can still find lovely little renaissance churches, museums and art, as well as golf, tennis, mountain biking, and horseback riding for your leisure activities. What’s more: we can help you plan short trips to Siena (just 60 km/37 miles away) or the world famous wineries of Chianti. Click here for a detailed activities list. "We wanted to be near Florence (15-20 minutes away), yet experience the Tuscan countryside. Podere Le Cave was a perfect location for our family, including two 17-year-olds! It was comfortable, charming, and the views of Florence, incomparable. The beautifully landscaped pool was a welcome diversion at the end of hot days of museums and travel. Mariella and Dante were very helpful, from providing directions and suggestions for sightseeing, arranging for a cooking class, even coming up with a spare bathing suit. We would return in a heartbeat!" |

"The owners of the place, Dante and Mariella are young and very accommodating, kind and full of attention in order to allow us enjoy our vacation in the best of ways. If it wasn’t for Florence being Florence, I think I would have never left the farmers house. The hospitality, the beautiful large rooms, the typical Mediterranean style garden and to end the magnificent pool facing over the valley were while you swim you can enjoy the sight of the city lights at distance as it sunsets. We also enjoyed the tasting of home made Chianti wine and olive oil which has nothing to do with what we buy at high price, absolutely superb! I want to thank Mariella and Dante for all they did to make us as comfortable as possible although I know it’s part of their income in concern but once again it all seemed like a "fairytale". |
